FIFO

12m Drama, Queer 2024

Socially isolated FIFO (fly-in fly-out) miner Clipper returns to the worksite after a wasted fortnight in Bali. Clipper is eager to rekindle his secret affair with an older colleague, Stub, who promised that they would discuss their relationship further upon his return. Meanwhile, Stub makes a phone call that makes him reconsider his priorities.

Preparing for the words he’s been waiting to hear for months, Clipper finds and greets Stub, only to be ignored. Hurt and confused, Clipper corners Stub in the quiet desert dunes where their romance first began. Together, they must navigate the consequences of Stub’s decision amid the hyper-masculine limbo that is fly-in fly-out mining.

Director Biography

William H. R. Forsyth is a multidisciplinary filmmaker. Since 2019, William has made seven short films, music videos and is currently working on a feature-length documentary. He also has extensive on-set experience as a crew member, working on multiple short films, music videos, commercials, television shows and feature films. Growing up in rural Central Victoria, his work pays special attention to the relationship between the Australian landscape and the people who inhabit it. Inspired heavily by the works of the early Australian New Wave and the Australian Queer film movement of the 90s, William’s work endeavours to explore new ways to interrogate the Australian psyche and cultural landscape while still paying respects to local cinema of the past.
