Leilani's Fortune

1h 20m Documentary, Deaf and disabled 2023

Leilani’s Fortune follows the music career of Witch Prophet. Based in Toronto, Witch Prophet is queer, Ethiopian-Eritrean, and a self-proclaimed psychic. She navigates queerness, motherhood, community, and disability. Her songs become a portal to all that the science cannot explain. Visions, dreams, nightmares, seizures, and psychic abilities. Leilani’s Fortune feature musical performances, videos, and a look at the creative process. The film highlights Witch Prophet’s perseverance. It stands as a testament to the magic created by those who choose to be artists on their own terms.

We invited Jax Brown (they/them) to write a review of Leilani’s Fortune and it is available to read online.
