Journey into the heart of Indigenous protest music with The Black Arm Band, a gathering of some of Australia’s finest Indigenous musicians, as they take to the road with their songs of resistance, survival and freedom.
From the concert halls of the Sydney Opera House to remote communities in the Northern Territory, Murundak – which means ‘alive’ in the Woirurrung language – brings together pioneering singers including Archie Roach, Bart Willoughby and the late Ruby Hunter, alongside a stellar lineup drawn from newer generations of Indigenous talent including Dan Sultan, Shellie Morris and Emma Donovan.
Filmed against the backdrop of Australia’s evolving political landscape, Murundak documents and celebrates a landmark event in contemporary Australian music history as The Black Arm Band sing up the country’s contested past through searing and affecting anthems of sorrow, anger and hope. Among other awards, Murundak received the UNAA – United Nations Assoc. of Australia Media Peace Awards – Special Award for the Promotion of Aboriginal Reconciliation.
