The Water of the Womb

10m Short, Deaf and disabled 2023

Content warning: Flashing Lights and Medical Procedures

The Water of the Womb is a personal journey of self exploration in the wake of great loss. An urgent and impulsive response to the oppression of circumstance that has long defined my life, and my art. The years of my childhood were by my mother’s side as she rehearsed for community theatre productions. In my own practice I have often looked inward, or to my community for inspiration. This project has been the culmination of a journey of reconciling my own grief and loss, both of someone I love, and of my sight. Of my muse, and of my tools for creation. Our protagonist grapples to understand the pain within themselves. They stoically face the reality of their medical diagnosis. Things ultimately beyond their control. I must continue, in honour of those that brought me here. This project was brought to life thanks to the nurture of many talented and dedicated creatives, dear friends, and family, without whom I could not have completed this work. - Baris Ulusoy
