Compare the Parents

11m Drama, Indie, Short 2023

A powerful short film exploring discrimination and unconscious bias.

Positive Powerful Parents is a Self Advocacy Group run by and for Parents with Intellectual Disability. This short film is about lived experience. The actors in the short film are all parents with intellectual disability.

Comparing the treatment of a non-disabled parent to a parent with intellectual disability. In scenes you will see that a new parent with disability has a negative experience. When this time should be exciting and joyful.

We want people to understand what a parent with intellectual disability goes through. Especially after the birth and then removal of a child. More often than not, staying in the ‘system’ for far too long. Based on the perceived risk of harm and neglect, not evidence. Sometimes the child never returns to the custody of their parents.
