Cry Under Water
Melbourne, 2020: Shanghai police officer Chen Jinfu has secretly smuggled himself into Australia to earn money for his ailing daughter. Instead, however, he has found himself trapped in mounting debt, with only a short window of time to scrape together the cash he needs.
After an unexpected encounter with a former high school friend and the appearance of an Australian passport in his possession, Jinfu’s sense of identity begins to unravel, pulling him into a dangerous moral spiral.

Director bio:
Nuoding (Notin) Wang is a Chinese international director graduating from a Master of Film and Television (Filmmaking) at the Victorian College of the Arts. Notin’s talents lie in using a unique Chinese perspective to observe and explain complex social phenomena. He focuses on exposing social problems that are often hidden in daily life, using his films as a medium to explore these topics. To date, he has directed two narrative short films, two documentary short films and one feature-length documentary. His narrative short Home of Salmon won the Bronze Award for Best Student Short in the January 2025 Independent Shorts Awards and was shortlisted for two other film festivals.Master of Film and Television (Filmmaking)
