Mincéir

55m Documentary 2023

Explore the Irish Traveller’s tradition in this unique documentary that journeys through past traditions, present transitions and future viewpoints.

Portraying how the Traveller culture evolved through connections between storytellers, wagonmakers, singers, hair and make-up artists, writers, actors, flower makers, tinsmiths, cooks and recyclers, Mincéir strikes a balance between authentic and engaging depictions of Traveller life.

Featuring never-before-told secrets and stories of Traveller traditions, this project by director Teresa Lavina provides an archive of information for generations to come – crucial, because these traditions continue to be passed on by simpler means: word of mouth, singing and storytelling.

Driven by progressive, modern members of the Traveller community, this documentary demonstrates their resilience, adaptation skills and strength, while chronicling their evolution alongside the Irish settler population throughout history.
