Racing Reverie

3m Experimental, Animation 2025

A horse takes on an arduous and challenging expedition through the boundless plains of Mongolia. Beginning by breaking away from the herd – and, subsequently, reality itself – it recklessly dashes forth into the excitement of a new adventure, but is soon met by multiple challenges of inner doubt and insecurity. Initially struggling to find its footing in such a vast, overwhelming environment, the horse is joined by an unlikely friend who encouragingly accompanies it to the finish line, and it gradually comes to discover that independence does not necessarily mean isolation.

A tale of conquering the pace of life, Racing Reverie is inspired by Huang Haihuai’s virtuosic erhu solo composition ‘Horse Racing’. Reimagining the possibilities of music-driven animation as a form of storytelling, the film plays with the concept of letting sound lead rather than merely supporting the development of its dreamlike narrative.
