Ryuichi Sakamoto - Opus

1h 43m Documentary, Live Concert, Music 2024

Stripped back. Crystalline. Beautifully imperfect.

Shot by Ryuichi Sakamoto’s son Neo Sora and armed only with a stage and his legendary Yamaha grand piano, Sakamoto performed a carefully curated selection of 21 songs for the final time. Shot in intimate black and white, Sora captures the master’s swansong with breathtaking intimacy and emotion.

Neo Sora’s stunning concert film removes all that is unnecessary until we are left with just Sakamoto and his music. Much more than a concert film, Opus is a heartbreaking experience if not for the music alone, which has broken hearts for decades, then for understanding that this unique film experience was knowingly conceived as a farewell to audiences around the world.
