SOYBOY

17m Comedy, Queer 2025

When infamous conservative media outlet The Daily Larrikin becomes the target of a federal investigation into discriminatory hiring practices, producers Jack and Tom scramble to come up with a way out of the inevitable company-sinking legal trouble.

Their solution: bring on a token diversity hire as a do-nothing assistant to their volatile star commentator Roy Ruebens, functionally killing two birds with one stone. The best they can manage is another white guy who happens to be gay; but the new twink on the job quickly ignites a powder keg of internal politics, on-air blunders and viral PR disaster, turning a legal problem into a full blown crisis for the entire company.

Director bio:

Moo Renzaho is a 23-year-old Congolese-Australian writer/director and (alleged) comedian based in Naarm, whose work interrogates modern conservative rhetoric and ideology through a uniquely queer lens.

He honed his craft at the Victorian College of the Arts, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film and Television) in 2023 before returning for an Honours year in 2025. Drawing from his own background in theatre and performance, his unique filmmaking process is intensely collaborative, employing extensive rehearsals to develop scripts with his cast, resulting in docufiction-style films that lean heavily on improvised performances and camerawork and feature captivating – if not slightly convoluted – narratives.
