The Bear Hunt
Ellie is determined to make her beloved teddy bear look ‘normal’ before her birthday. The 12-year-old goes on a journey to understand difference. Both in her bear and in herself.
Lily Drummond is an Adelaide based screenwriter and director. Her work spotlights joyful, complex, authentic disabled and queer characters. She is passionate about deeper representation and inclusion within the Australian film sector. Lily is a recipient of 2026 Churchill Fellowship and her project is: To investigate pathways for disabled writers and directors into professional scripted screen careers.
“I live with a neuromuscular condition, and I am neurodivergent, and this informs both my artistic identity and the communities I write from and for. Throughout my emerging career, I have recognised that access is not a creative limitation, but one of the conditions that allows better work to happen. It asks us to communicate clearly and build creative environments where people are supported to do their best work” (Lily Drummond).
The Bear Hunt has also screened at Slamdance Film Festival 2026 and St Kilda Film Festival 2026.
Lily has another film within our 2026 program. ‘With Love, Lottie’ is screening at The Other Film Festival 2026 on the Big Screen. This film masterfully draws from Lily’s lived experiences as a young disabled queer person.
