Brimstone & Glory

1h 7m Documentary 2018

Immerse yourself in the ritual, danger and beauty of fireworks in this explosive spectacle.

One of the most captivating spectacles caught on camera, the national Pyrotechnic Festival in Tultepec, Mexico is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. To celebrate San Juan de Dios, patron saint of firework makers, this small town comes together for ten days of explosive revelry.

With more than three quarters of residents working in pyrotechnics, the festival not only captures their incendiary conflagrations but also the community’s fiery spirit. The artisans of Tultepec combust their creations alongside the emerging fire-workers, praised for having ““gunpowder in the blood”“, who possess a lo-fi virtuosity that’s as bright as their rowdy DIY constructions.

Director Viktor Jakovleski and the creative team behind Beasts of the Southern Wild have captured the delight and danger of the fireworker’s craft, capturing the giddy excitement through flawless cinematography that needs to be seen to be believed.
