Far Out Family Films is a heartwarming season of live-action stories that celebrate the spirit of childhood against the backdrop of Australia’s regional landscapes. Featuring Oddball, Red Dog: True Blue, Storm Boy, and Blueback, this curated selection explores animal friendships, environmental care, intergenerational bonds, and growing up with a strong connection to land and community.

While many streaming platforms focus on fast-paced animations and branded franchises, this season highlights underrated local gems, rich with emotion, humour, and purpose. These aren’t just family friendly stories; they are family enriching stories. Each film invites both kids and adults to laugh together, reflect, and reconnect with storytelling that feels real and truly Australian.

This season encourages families to rediscover the joy of watching together, not just for entertainment, but for connection. These films offer something different; a chance to explore new places, spark meaningful conversations, and see the world through the eyes of adventurous kids and their animal companions. Perfectly timed for school holidays and presented on ACMI’s Cinema 3, the season is a reminder that sometimes the most powerful stories come from close to home, and they’re best enjoyed side by side.
